"Sara" on Crayons:
When i was a lass crayons bugged me a lot.
You can never get straight edges,
(even if you use the bottom b/c then it's just all curvy)
the color isnt continuous b/c the wax sometimes deposits little blobs,
they are too small to get a lot of control with,
(especially after you've sharpened them a million times trying to get a point that just breaks off in the little built in sharpener EVERY TIME)
when you press down harder to get a nice solid line the crayon will break exactly in half,
it's hard to get them out of the little rows in those funky boxes,
they smell bad,
every kid has five crayons they use the most and all the others are clearly untouched,
(sometimes you feel guilty & want to give the others a shot, but no one likes burnt sienna).
However, i think that crayons can create deep, rich, very beautiful colours if you dont give up.
My favourite crayon colours are:
cerulean, (plain) green, (plain) red, plum, black, & the golden yellow one.
[no first grader is quite sure what a "cerulean" is, or even how to say it, but everyone knows it's the prettiest.]
